Car Of The Week – Lamborghini Urus Performante

There are roughly 700 Lamborghini Urus Performantes registered in the UK that aren’t SORNed. That might seem like a lot, but for a mass-produced, extremely popular car (arguably Lamborghini’s most popular), those are not huge quantities. Even more so when you consider that Lamborghini are only making the SE these days, so unless Lamborghini put the Performante back into production, their number can only ever decline.

There was a time when it was unthinkable that brands such as Lamborghini and Ferrari would produce SUVs, but now, they’re some of the brands’ best-selling cars. Panic not, because The Urus Performante hasn’t abandoned its roots. There’s no doubt when you see this car that it could be anything else. It just has to be a Lamborghini.

It stays true to Lamborghini’s association with bulls, too- the name itself (Urus), coming from Aurochs- the ancestor of domestic cattle, but also via the colour. And this car is all about the colour. Viola Pasifae is reportedly named after the mother of the Minotaur in Greek mythology, Pasiphae. If you don’t speak Lamborghini, it’s quite simply the most brilliant purple we’ve ever seen, and it looks every inch the Lamborghini. All the drama and performance of the supercars Lamborghini have built their reputation with, coupled with enough space for the driver and three passengers in supreme comfort, those in the front can even enjoy a back massage if they so desire, thanks to the optional fully electric front seats.

The options list continues with full exterior carbon fibre package, which essentially means that on the outside of the car, if it’s not purple, there’s a very high chance it’s made out of carbon fibre. Inside, 3D Bang & Olufsen audio, Performante trim and a panoramic sliding glass roof, along with leather headlining and a leather parcel shelf, make the interior a simply nice place to be.

Since it’s a Performante, not an S, the Urus gets an Akrapovic titanium exhaust system as standard, along with carbon ceramic brakes and 4-wheel steering to make sure the car is as enjoyable to drive at all speeds-whether that’s manoeuvring in a car park, or some more spirited driving (in suitable, law-abiding conditions that is). And we think that’s the secret to the Urus’ success. It quite literally does everything.
