1 OF 25 BRILLIANT BRONZE EDITION
Audi know how to do a performance estate. Some might even go so far as to say that they are the kings of the fast wagon. Their much-loved RS 4 and RS 6 models have been carrying kids, dogs, and family paraphernalia along the German autobahn at up to 155mph for over two decades.
The modern-day RS 6 in particular has developed a massive following; with its potent V8, aggressive styling, cavernous boot space, and reputation for solidity, it has become the definitive ‘do-everything’ car. There is, of course, competition from its German rivals: the new M3 Touring and Mercedes E63 AMG are equally exciting estates, but few have made their mark as firmly as those produced by Audi.
Although it has spent most of its life in the RS 6’s shadow, in many ways the AudiRS 4 is the perfect daily performance estate car. Our glorious example is particularly special – being a ‘Bronze Edition’, it is a member of an exclusive group of 25 UK cars which offer an authoritative, sharp, sophisticated edge to an already exceptional base platform. Adding delightful bronze touches to the exterior and interior, including: 20’’ arm-peak alloy wheels in a stunning soft satin finish and black leather seats with bronze contrast stitching, the special edition provides extra flair and additional personality.
Moreover, the vehicle benefits from black exterior styling to the front grille, window surrounds, roof rails, and badges, as well as extensive matte carbon fibre detailing to the front lip spoiler, mirror covers, and rear diffuser, including exquisite interior inlays in carbon. Although only small changes, these additions all come together to generate a bespoke, distinctive feel. And in Audi Exclusive Vesuvius Grey metallic it oozes a sleek, prestigious confidence.
The RS 4 Avant Bronze Edition also comes with a strong array of standard features which would usually only be available as an optional extra. Ensuring the RS 4 stands out from the crowd, it boasts the Comfort and Sound Pack, giving a crisp Bang & Olufsen sound system, surround cameras, keyless entry, and an extended LED interior light pack. The technology pack, full leather package, and styling pack are also included, providing fantastic equipment for a car of this segment. Perhaps one of the most important attributes, though, is the lively, popping-and-banging RS Sports Exhaust system, making the RS 4 fun to drive no matter the occasion.
And this is the thing about RS Audis; they manage to balance comfort, understated authority, tastefulness, quality, and performance in tremendous equilibrium. BMWs are fantastic, and they are the driver’s choice, no doubt. But if you’d like the best of both worlds, with sufficient versatility to do the daily commute but also have a bit of fun at the weekend, little else comes close to the RS 4 for practicality and driving enjoyment.
