The lure of an Aston Martin has always been synonymous with the phrase ‘Grand Tourer’. A beautifully stylish car that is capable of carrying 2 people in total comfort, along with their luggage, across hundreds of miles of A and B roads with ease, yet with enough power to cover the distance effortlessly. Exactly the type of requirements that made it the perfect choice for a certain Mr Bond.
With the new DBS, Aston Martin have taken the idea of the Grand Tourer and turned it all the way up to 11. Starting with the very easy-on-the-eye DB11 and evolving the model to create the ultimate Grand Tourer. A car that they themselves call the ‘pinnacle of the Aston Martin range’. The shape is unmistakably Aston Martin but now it appears more aggressive and muscular, with broader wheel arches, deeper bumpers and splitters, and a gaping front grille for improved air flow.
Replacement components in carbon fibre such as the roof, side strakes and one piece clamshell bonnet mean that weight, and more importantly the centre of gravity, are lowered for improved handling. Carbon ceramic brakes come as standard for ultimate stopping performance and 21” forged wheels mean that all this dieting saves 70kg over the DB11. Even the name has been given an overhaul with the addition of the legendary ‘Superleggera’ tag to signify the design and engineering that has gone into reducing the car’s mass. Everything about the car is maximised for performance yet not at the expense of interior comfort.
The new honed bodywork and muscular stance is of course complimented by the powerhouse of a powerplant under the bonnet. A twin-turbocharged 5.2 litre V12 engine produces a colossal 715bhp and an even more impressive 900Nm of torque, resulting in a 0-62mph time of just 3.6 seconds and a top speed of 211mph. If the DBS Superleggera is the pinnacle of the Aston Martin range, then this is undoubtedly the pinnacle of Grand Touring motoring.
Our Aston Martin DBS Superleggera is finished in Lunar White with full contrasting Obsidian Black and Ivory Caithness leather interior. The carbon fibre components standard on the car are complimented by machined carbon fibre exterior badges. 21” forged gloss black diamond turned wheels and rear smoked lenses finish off the monochrome exterior appearance, save for the red painted brake calipers. Whilst the sumptuous interior features carbon fibre trim, warm charcoal seatbelts, DBS embroidery on the seats and a Bang & Olufsen BeoSound audio system. The car has covered just 1000 miles and comes with the remainder of an Aston manufacturer warranty until June 2022.
