For most people if money were no object and you were buying your dream car most people would say a supercar or hypercar from the likes of Bugatti, McLaren or Ferrari. As fantastic as this sounds, usually they are not something you would tolerate to use every day. So, then the next question would be, in the same situation, which would you choose as a car to use every day? This time the majority of people tend to lean towards two cars in particular: the Range Rover Sport SVR and the Audi RS6. Even at Alexanders if you ask our staff the same question those two cars are easily the most common answers.
So why these two cars in particular? The answer is fairly straight forward, they have the complete package and are more than capable of excelling in any situation and condition. Luxury, refinement, power, space, quality and comfort, they have it all in abundance. In terms of luxury and comfort the Range Rover would be expected to be included but what about the Audi RS6?
For many years, the Audi RS6 has been the ultimate ‘sleeper’ car in that it looks like an everyday luxury estate but has supercar performance when needed. The latest version however has upgraded the looks to give more than just a hint of what is lurking underneath. With the most aggressive styling yet on a modern Audi, the RS6 looks positively menacing and angry, more than enough to match the growling soundtrack and tyre shredding speed. With a 4.0 litre bi-turbo V8 engine producing 592bhp the RS6 is capable of some very impressive performance figures, 0-62mph in just 3.6 seconds, 0-124mph in 12 seconds and on to an electronically limited top speed of 155mph. Or 174 mph if you select the Vorsprung or Launch Edition specification and up to 190mph if you go all out and choose ceramic brakes.
The latest version is not just aimed at performance though with an abundance of Audi’s latest technology and a focus on sophistication and luxuriousness thrown in too. The engine may be hard to ignore with its ballistic performance, but it also comes with cylinder deactivation, intelligent start-stop, coasting mode and 48V mild hybrid assistance for improved economy and reduced emissions. The latest software and technology systems combined with improved materials and endless levels of customisation mean it can be set up just the way you like it and remains remarkably comfortable and composed whatever the road conditions are throwing at you. This level of individuality combined with Audi’s famous Quattro four-wheel drive, four-wheel steering and a sports differential mean that this is the best handling RS6 yet, with more of that insane power available more of the time.
Obviously the most impressive thing about the car is the engine and its performance, however the upgraded technology comes a close second. Not that it means the driving experience has become numb and computers have taken over the experience, but the fact that it does everything so well without you noticing or it being intrusive at all. The advanced systems impressively go about their business without you realising, leaving you to enjoy the thrill of the driving and the noise that comes with it. They are there if and when you need them and often help out without you even noticing they have at all, the way technology should be in a performance car.
