When Aston Martin squeezed their 5.9 litre V12 engine into the smallest car they made, the Vantage, they created something very special despite being somewhat un-Aston-Martin-like. It may have still had the refinement and luxuriousness expected of the brand, but with an engine that powerful thrown into the mix it was almost lairy and brutish, not Aston at all. It maybe should not have worked and created a car with mixed identity and an unsure purpose, yet the result was exceptional.
The V12 Vantage S produces 565 bhp from a revised version of the 5.9 V12 found in the DBS of the same era, meaning a 0-62 mph time of just 3.7 seconds and a top speed of 205mph. Not just supercar fast but the quickest Aston Martin ever produced at the time, impressively equalling the performance of the £1.2m limited edition One-77. Accompanying the huge power increase are carbon ceramic brakes, lightweight forged wheels and a carbon fibre vented bonnet, carbon boot lid and front grille.
Many track focused supercars of similar performance add to the racing experience by removing a lot of the sound proofing, fitting thinner carpets and exposing interior dash parts and door panels. However, that was a step too far for the reputation of Aston Martin and part of the reason that this car is so exceptional is that it is just as customisable and bespoke as the rest of the range can be made to be. These days we are used to the likes of Mclaren’s MSO department, Lamborghini’s AD Personam and Ferrari’s Atelier specification customisation options, but that was almost unheard of when the V12 Vantage S was released back in 2013. Before they were around, Aston Martin were the original bespoke creation specialists for your luxury sports car. With seemingly endless choices of trim colours, paint finishes, stitching shades and carpets, the opportunity is there to create something very creative and unique to suit your individual tastes.
Our 2014 Aston Martin V12 Vantage S is finished in Q Special colour Almond Green, a colour not too far removed from the shade of racing green found on the legendary DB4 GT Zagato. The Vantage has always been a luxurious place to sit, snug but not confined, and offers comfort combined with attention to detail that very few can match. Internally the green colouring theme is continued with sumptuous Parliament Green Caithness leather and contrasted with the Light Tan Alcantara with Sahara Tan and Green alternate stitching. Even the carpets, floor mats and dashboard leather are matching Parliament Green, with the Light Tan Alcantara continuing to the headliner, A and C pillars. The colour combination is not only effortlessly sophisticated but is sure to be a rare combination not seen on many other examples, if any at all.
Contrasting the sumptuous leather and Alcantara is the abundance of carbon fibre from the Interior carbon pack, something that is also specified to the outside for the trim, and the carbon fibre lightweight seats. The interior environment is completed by the optional 700W Aston martin premium audio system, not that this may get much use with the sound that the 5.9 V12 produces a joy to listen to from tick-over to hard acceleration. Adding the generous specification on our car is the 19” Gloss Black diamond turned wheels, 7-speed Sportshift III transmission, carbon fibre shift paddles, front and rear parking sensors, reversing camera and much more. This example is offered in exceptional condition and has covered just 3,500 miles as well as being accompanied by a comprehensive service history.
