Every once in a while, a mainstream manufacturer designs and builds a car a little out of their comfort zone, or the accepted brand image hierarchy. Often unappreciated whilst actually on sale, eventually they become iconic cars that become not only future classics but eventually build their own cult following decades later. BMW had the M1, Jaguar had the XJ220 and Honda had the NSX. Built as a Ferrari rival that could also prove to be reliable and used as an everyday car, the NSX also famously had handling honed by one of the greatest drivers of all time; Ayrton Senna. Although final sales figures were impressive for a car of that standing, a lot of people ultimately couldn’t get past the badge on the bonnet. These days things have changed, Audi make the R8 supercar, BMW have the i8, even Ford have the GT. Badge ‘snobbery’ seems to have taken a back seat, especially if the end product is good enough to make people take notice.
Replacing an iconic car is always a difficult task, so Honda took a different approach with the brand new NSX, by being as ground-breaking as the original car set out to be. Using hybrid technology similar to that found in the Porsche 918 and McLaren P1 hypercars, the Japanese manufacturer mixes 3 electric motors used to boost a newly developed 3.5 litre twin turbo V6 to produce a combined 573bhp and cover 0-62mph in just 2.9 seconds. Hypercar technology in a car a fraction of the price is always going to be impressive. Rather than attempt to recreate the styling in a modern package, they’ve also gone futuristic with the looks, meaning the new NSX looks as forward thinking as the technology that powers it.
Our Honda NSX is finished in iconic 130R White, named after the legendary corner on the Honda owned Suzuka Race Circuit in Japan, and features full semi-aniline red leather and black Alcantara interior with contrast stitching. It comes with an excellent specification to include carbon ceramic brakes with red calipers, Technology Pack to include; Studio Audio, satellite navigation, and front and rear parking sensors, and a black Alcantara headlining. This together with features such as 19/20” interwoven alloy wheels, reverse assist camera, exposed carbon roof and LED headlights make this car an exceptional example. It has covered just 2,300 miles and comes with a full Honda service history as well as Honda manufacturer warranty and service plan until October 2020.
