Car Of The Week – Aston Martin DBS VolanteIt’s not every day Aston Martin puts these three letters on the side of one of their cars; DBS. Forget the background check for a second, because it’s all to do with David Brown, the brilliant Brit whose brainchild Aston Martin was.
The David Brown Special (or DBS) Volante, was the flagship open-top GT. It’s as good as an Aston Martin gets with a removable roof. During its years of production, it was the most expensive Aston Martin you could buy.

The DBS uses clever carbon fibre body panels and an aluminium chassis to offset the added weight gained from structural braces to afford the car the ability to drop the roof, which dulls things down very nicely when its up, providing a great level of isolation for longer journeys. However, this car’s headline concerns the paint-which is satin from factory- and along with the smoked taillamps, gives the car a completely menacing look. Rear view mirror chills to the max.
There’s plenty of carbon fibre too, thanks to the optional carbon fibre upper and lower packages. There’s also carbon fibre of the satin variety to be found on the interior, which is a simply delightful place to be. The GT nature of the car is fortified by the 16-way electric front seats, which it has to be said, are extremely comfortable – even in the heat, as they’re ventilated. This is the ultimate country-crossing machine. It gives the impression, thanks to the simply bountiful power coming from the V12 under the bonnet, that it would simply take long distances in its stride.
Aston Martin Lagonda are mentioned in the specification too – an especially luxurious wing of Aston Martin, and they’ve paid special attention to the roof, which is Black and Silver. Just look at it.
