Car Of The Week – BMW M3 CS TouringCompetition Sport, or CS is a name that BMW uses to bridge the gap between the racetrack and the road, and it has finally made its way on to the rear end of the G81 M3 Touring, joining the M4, M3, M2, and M5
An interesting combination then: race car potential in a car that’ll fit the family in too. Could the M3 CS be the perfect one-car solution?

The most remarkable thing about the M3 CS is the breadth of its abilities. It’s off to a strong start, for under the carbon fibre bonnet sits an inline six-cylinder that provides the basis for BMW’s M4 GT3 race car. Further motorsport influences can be found in those distinctive yellow LED headlights.
Further CS-exclusive details include carbon fibre-reinforced plastic on the front diffuser, bonnet, front air intakes, rear diffuser, and exterior mirror caps. These Gold wheels are also in a CS-specific design. There is a red accent running throughout the car, from the surrounds of the M3 CS badging to that famous kidney grille. Peering inside, your attention is grabbed by the apparently completely carbon fibre centre console. Clearly, this is a car with genuine racing intent, which makes the optional ceramic brakes this M3 CS has start to make sense.
Lots of subtle changes mean there’s a weight saving of 15kg over a BMW M3 Competition Touring xDrive, whilst retaining exactly the same size boot (500 litres, expanding to 1,510). It’s not just an estate full of scaffolding and no floor mats, either. The M3 CS Touring has features like Harmon/Kardon, Comfort Access and even heated front seats.
So pack in the pram, the kids and the dogs and take the whole family for a track day.
