Car Of The Week – Ferrari 488 GTB

A decade is a considerable amount of time. Since it was introduced in 2015, this year, the 488 will reach that very milestone (although the one in the pictures is slightly newer). We have to say- it seems to have aged extremely well. It’s got svelte curves and dashing good looks. From every angle, it appears as a Ferrari should.

The purists among you can put down your pitchforks and leave the 296’s V6 hybrid controversy behind as well because behind the seats lurks a 3.9-litre V8, sending power only to the rear wheels. It’s a classic failsafe supercar recipe.

Year: 2017

Mileage: 15,200

Colour: Nero Daytona

Interior: Crema & Nero full Daytona leather

A classic recipe with a special twist, thanks to some tasteful options, starting with the Beige and Black (Crema and Nero if you speak Ferrari) Daytona racing seats. There’s leather to the upper part of the dashboard, with Nero coloured stitching. Some little things like the Yellow rev counter, coloured floor mats with the Ferrari logo and even a lifter for the front seats just make the interior a nicer place to be.

It wouldn’t be a supercar without carbon fibre, and in this case, there’s plenty, with the carbon fibre racing package, which includes interior items like the central tunnel and driver zone with LEDs. It’s not all just carbon fibre: this 488 is more classy than most with a sports exhaust and the Forza Componeti Bluetooth exhaust valve controller to give you control of how deaf or otherwise you’d like your neighbours to be with just the press of a button.  Now the ‘boring’ practical part, because this 488 GTB has the ever so fashionable paint protection film (PPF), to the front end of the car, suspension lifter, parking camera, front and rear parking sensors, adaptive frontlight system… the list goes on and on.

Is ten years too many? In a word- no.The 488 continues to fill its own niche, despite the arrival of the 296, and a decade later, it still has just as much appeal (if not more) as it did when it was new, especially thanks to that V8.
