Car Of The Week – Ferrari PurosangueFor seventy-five years, Ferrari said no. No four doors. No practicality. No compromise. The answer to anyone who dared ask for a Ferrari they could actually use as a daily was always the same: that’s not what we do.
Then they built the Purosangue. And nothing quite prepares you for it.
Year: 2024
Mileage: 2500
Colour: Extra Range Matte Grigio Silverstone
Interior: Nero Leather
Ferrari calls it a FUV, Ferrari Utility Vehicle. Not an SUV. They’re very clear on that distinction. And once you understand what’s underneath, you understand why.
Every other car with similar proportions uses a turbocharged engine or a layout that prioritises space over dynamics. The Purosangue is the only one to fit a mid-front-mounted, naturally aspirated V12. That engine, the F140IA, produces 725cv at 7,750rpm, with 80% of its maximum torque available at just 2,100rpm. It revs to 8,250rpm. In a four-door car. With four seats. And a boot.
The numbers are barely believable. 0-62mph in 3.3 seconds. Top speed of 193mph. With four people on board.
The dynamic control systems are drawn directly from Ferrari’s most powerful sports cars, the independent four-wheel steering of the 812 Competizione and the ABS Evo with 6-way Chassis Dynamic Sensor from the 296 GTB. Filtered into something that carries four adults in genuine comfort.
Inside, the cabin feels like an extraordinarily elegant sporting lounge. Four heated electric seats. The largest boot ever fitted to a Ferrari. Rear seats that fold for even more space. The Nuovo Giallo stitching on this example lifts the Nero leather beautifully, a detail that rewards the closer look.
Ferrari insisted Purosangue would never be more than 20% of their annual production. Exclusivity, by design. It won the Compasso d’Oro industrial design award in 2024. Critics who expected them to get it wrong went quiet very quickly.
Seventy-five years of saying no. And then this.
