Car Of The Week – Land Rover Defender 90 XS SWB TwistedIn case you’ve been living under a very large and dense rock, Twisted are known for modifying Defenders. Except modifying doesn’t really cover it, because these guys are forensic in their conversions.
If you’ve driven a standard Defender, you’ll know what they’re like: cramped, slow and quite frankly, ‘characterful’ seems generous. However, good news! This car’s complete overhaul courtesy of Twisted completely changes the game.

Twisted interior in Mocha and Black Nappa leather
Speaking of game, with the shooting season approaching, this Defender 90 is ready and raring to go, with a gun box behind the seats, where the rear seats are meant to be. Though if that’s not your style, twisted have re-trimmed the rear seats to match the fronts, and they can be put back in at your leisure.
We really need more words to appreciate the transformation properly, but know that just about everything you could wish to do in a Defender has been done, with luxuries such as heated Recaro front seats, heated wing mirrors and a full Nappa leather interior making the interior a really special place to be. The power upgrade (up to 170bhp) brings the Defender into genuinely usable territory, along with plenty of soundproofing, cruise control and a bigger fuel tank to make longer drives ten times more enjoyable.
Fear not, this Defender hasn’t gone all soft though. Twisted have fitted an ARB locking rear differential and chunky off-road rubber to retain and improve the Defender’s ability through the rough stuff. So there you have it. The Twisted Defender is certainly a tempting proposition, especially at this time of year.
