Car Of The Week – Lotus Emira V6 First EditionFrom sophisticated, calm Swedish metal to Chinese-made EVs, and even sports cars built in Norfolk, the Geely portfolio is impressively vast and diverse. There’s still no prizes for guessing what we’re talking about today though (largely due to the picture at the top of the email).
Supposedly, Lotus stands for Lots Of Trouble, Usually Serious. But with the same company who make Volvos now in charge, things could be looking up. Regardless, this isn’t the kind of car you buy for it to be boring and predictable. You buy it for its character, its charm, and its baby supercar looks.

It’s an important car, the Emira. It arrived to mark the start of a new era for Lotus, and is reportedly the last new Lotus to be offered with an internal combustion engine, before they commit to a fully electrified future. Additionally, since this is a First Edition, it benefits from a V6 engine, as opposed to a four-cylinder engine. The Lotus philosophy hasn’t been completely abandoned, but the interior especially shows a slight alteration in mindset, with more creature comforts than owners of previous Lotus models might be used to, including heated, 12-way electric sports seats, a reversing camera and a KEF premium audio system.
Car enthusiasts tend to be resistant to change, but the truth is, not all change is bad. The Emira has become distinctly more usable than Lotus models of old, and if that gives you more opportunity to enjoy what a fantastic little car the Emira is, then who are we to judge? And in the day and age where cars regularly weigh over 2 tonnes, the Emira is still a very light car, very similar in fact, to a comparable 911. Definitely not overweight then.
It’s an interesting car, the Emira. Since the recent price increase, the Emira sits at over £100k list price, once you tick a few of the option boxes. Which places it dangerously close to a base spec 911. So, which would you rather have? The top spec Emira with a few options, or a low spec 911? We’ll leave the decision to you.
