Car of the week – Our Aston Martin Vantage V12 Roadster

UNLEASH THE V12 SYMPHONY

When the first-generation V12-engined Aston Martin Vantage was released back in 2009, it was met with rapturous applause. Shoehorning its six-litre naturally aspirated V12 into its smallest model, Aston created a masterful supercarrecipe that everyone instantly loved. Massive power, a short wheel-base, and, latterly, the offering of a manual transmission, produced an utterly intoxicating mix of torque, luxury, and old-school prestige.

Knowing that eventually developing a V12 version of the brand’s latest-generation V8 Vantage Coupe would be an out-and-out success, Aston again decided to shove its monstrous 5.2-litre twin-turbocharged V12 into its most diminutive model.

Say hello to the 2023 Aston MartinVantage Roadster V12. Indeed, our example happens to be the ‘soft-top’ variant, bringing even more drama into the cabin than the already-superb Coupe derivative.

Limited to just 249 examples globally, it goes without saying that our Vantage V12 is an extremely rare beast. Spot one on the road, and you’d best get your camera out quickly because you won’t be seeing one again any time soon, that’s for sure.

Differentiating it from its simpler siblings, the V12 Vantage utilises a re-sculpted front splitter, rear diffuser, and rear wing to generate ten-percent more downforce at speed than the standard Vantage Roadster.

Carbon fibre front bumpers, fenders, and side sills help keep the weight down, and optional satin carbon bucket seats (which our example is specified with) reduces mass by a further 7.3kg. In all honesty, the ‘lightweight’ ethos of the V12 Vantage is more about flair, drama, and expression, than, say, the dialled-in engineering of a Porsche 911 GT-3. Nevertheless, with enormous carbon fibre brakes, a raucous exhaust system, and a 0-60mph time of 3.5 seconds demonstrates that Aston mean business.

If you like your sports cars distinctive, you’ll feel right at home with the beautiful, yet arresting looks of our Vantage V12. With a China Grey exterior coupled with a duo-tone Onyx Black and Ivory Alcantara and Contemporary leather interior (interspersed with flashes of Cote d’Azur Blue contrast stitching), our Vantage oozes quality, sophistication, and a certain refined, tasteful aggression that you won’t find in just any supercarThe distinctive ‘Livery Scheme’ comprising of Flugplatz Blue pinstriping, front lipstick, and rear detailing highlights its athletic profile – you won’t mistake it for any regular Vantage!

Options-wise, you’re looking at a long list of aesthetic and performance-enhancing upgrades. 21’’ Lightweight satin black alloy wheels, exterior carbon pack to lower areas, heat-treated exhaust tailpipes, black-vaned front grille, black badges, as well as a carbon fibre interior package, lightweight carbon buckets, premium audio system, anodised ‘Q’ rotary dials in Blue, and a top-level vehicle tracking system makes our V12 Vantage even more of a special, bespoke proposition.

You only need give the throttle a couple of small blips to release a wonderfully deep, soulful, passionate roar from its centrally-mounted tailpipes. It’s not as theatrical as a Ferrari V12, with its high-pitched scream, but delivers its own distinctive cacophony of back-popping thunder – enough to make you instantly want one. A truly characterful automobile.
