CAR OF THE WEEK – OUR ROLLS ROYCE CULLINAN BLACK BADGE URBANRULE THE ROAD
Road presence. It’s the first box that must be ticked in the modern SUV rule book. The imperious Range Rover, for example, with its recognisable front grille and boxy proportions has it in abundance; meet one charging along towards you on a country lane and there’s little debate about which one of you will have to reverse back.
Similarly, a Mercedes Benz GLS, BMW X7, Audi Q7 or Land Rover Discovery all manage to exude an aura of dominance – their imposing front ends coupled with raised-up suspension and high driving positions not only make those piloting them feel confident behind the wheel but they communicate a sense of authority to onlookers which ordinary saloons fail to match.
All SUVs to some degree give you a commanding driving experience, but if you truly want to rule the road then look no further than the monstrous Rolls Royce Cullinan Black Badge with the ‘Re-Defined by URBAN’ Widetrack Pack.
UK-based URBAN Automotive who are “Bespoke Modifiers of Luxury Automotive Brands” are perhaps best known for their bonkers carbon fibre NERO packages for various Lamborghinis as well as subtle upgrades to a host of Land Rover products, but now enhance a comprehensive list of makes and models.
One instinctively bristles at the notion of a modified Rolls Royce – it takes 60 pairs of hands and 400 hours to build a Rolls Royce motor car and for any of that attention to detail to be meddled with feels wrong.
However, whilst other aftermarket modifiers may go too far, URBAN have ensured that their Cullinan Widetrack enhancement hands greater flair and distinctiveness to the owner whilst retaining that special Rolls Royce authenticity that is so central to the brand. Consisting of extensive carbon fibre exterior styling such as new front and rear bumpers, sill extensions, wheel arch extensions, a 2 piece rear wing and lower decklid spoiler as well as front vents and air intake surrounds, the pack manages to spice up the design without removing any Rolls Royce DNA.
A collaboration with forged wheel manufacturer, Vossen has given birth to a set of enormous turbine-style gloss black 24-inch items which give the Cullinan an incredibly aggressive, muscular stance. Sure, the look here is more overtly ‘aftermarket’ than subtly-enhanced traditionalism, appealing to those with a specific taste for low stances and bulging styling characteristics, but you can take solace in the knowledge that the upgrades have been applied with the same focus and quality as if carried out by Rolls Royce themselves.
Let’s be honest, for most people the ‘regular’ Cullinan Black Badge is more than enough to give the owner an extraordinary experience. With 30bhp more than the standard Cullinan as well as a plethora of darkened-chrome exterior elements and special interior details, the Black Badge oozes quality, luxury and contemporary elegance. The URBAN Widetrack Kit is for those who want to stand out from the crowd. It is about individuality. And expression. And being King of the road.
