Car Of The Week – Porsche 911 Speedster (992)Revealed to the world in 2018, the Porsche 911 Speedster first came into production in 2019 in limited numbers – this specific one is 553 of 1,948.
Why 1,948 you ask? Well, it’s because the Speedster pays homage with its looks and intentions to the year of the 356 “No.1” Roadster, from 1948. Of which this is number 553.
Year: 19/69
Mileage: 1,500
Colour: GT Silver
Interior: Black/ Cognac two-tone leather Heritage Design
The Speedster isn’t just about its looks; it’s built to be genuinely lightweight, with a total mass of 1,456kg unladen. With a lighter soft top, carbon fibre composite bonnet and rear compartment lid that features Porsche’s characteristic ‘double-bubble’ streamliners. Plus, it borrows the four-litre, six-cylinder, naturally aspirated engine from the 911 991 GT3. Still, it uses a more lightweight exhaust system and a delightful manual gearbox without a seventh forward gear to save weight that feels like you’re loading a bolt-action sniper rifle. Plus, the carbon ceramic brakes that come as standard will be needed to curb the performance – 503bhp and 470Nm will see you from 0-62mph in 4.0 seconds.
Let’s talk about those looks, though, because this isn’t just any 911 Speedster – it’s been optioned with the Heritage Design package – the first time this package was made available on a Porsche. A modern interpretation of Porsche’s historic elements from the 1950s and 60s, the package includes a classic two-tone leather interior, Cognac highlights and golden details. The Porsche crest on the bonnet is in a special historic design, and the speedster logo and limited-edition badge are both in gold.
The paintwork is rather special too, because the front end of the Speedster is painted in White-what Porsche calls the “spears” look–over the wings to the A pillars. What a combination of cars. The performance and engine of a 911 GT3, combined with the handsome looks of the Porsche 356.
