Used Toyota GR Yaris for sale
The Toyota Yaris is one of the most everyday cars in the world. Thanks to its bulletproof reliability and low running costs, it has become a frequent sight worldwide. The GR Yaris is a totally different animal, however. It exists as a road-going rally special, and its production was authorised to continue Toyota’s long-standing rally legacy.
What the GR Yaris has to offer
The GR Yaris comes in three flavours: base, Convenience Pack, and Circuit Pack. The Convenience pack focussed on building upon the interior specification, with kit such as an integrated satnav, a larger JBL stereo, HUD and parking sensor. On the other hand, Circuit Pack cars don’t get interior upgrades and focus on important changes under the GR Yaris’ skin, including larger brakes, forged Enkei wheels with more track-focussed tyres, stiffer suspension and a locking differential on both the front and rear axles. Centre. All versions of the Yaris come with a gutsy 1.6-cylinder engine that, with the aid of a turbocharger, produces 257bhp and 265 lb-ft of torque. That might not sound like a huge amount in today’s money, but crucially, the GR Yaris weighs less than 1300kg, which makes it very light for a modern car. Toyota has spared no effort with the GR Yaris, and the degree to which it is fit for purpose as a rally homologation special shows as a result.
Interior and tech
Interior-wise, the GR Yaris is unremarkable. Truth be told, the GR Yaris isn’t a car that cares for a plush, luxurious interior, having been born for a single purpose: to act as the base for Toyota’s rally car. However, it doesn’t help that packaging is awkward, thanks to the GR Yaris having been developed with competitiveness in the WRC as a priority. The quality of materials isn’t exactly plush, and in the earlier generation, the infotainment screen tends to cover a little too much of the view out of the windscreen than it would in an ideal world. The 2024 model is slightly better for ergonomics, though. To maximise the Interior and tech your GR Yaris has, cars with the Convenience Pack are necessary for modern-day technology such as a HUD and satnav. It’s also worth noting that the back seats are smaller than ideal and that the front seats sit higher than might be preferable. That being said, items such as the gear lever and steering wheel are reported to be exceptionally well-judged.
What are the running costs?
Official figures suggest as high as 34.3mpg is possible, which is impressive for such a performance-oriented car, whilst CO2 emissions of 215g/km are perhaps more realistic. For a car that offers such high levels of performance, the GR Yaris shouldn’t be too costly to run. There’s also no reason to suspect the GR Yaris won’t live up to Toyota’s reputation for bullet-proof reliability. It could be difficult to top the GR Yaris’ combination of road-going thrills, economy and reliability. Thanks to the GR Yaris being limited in production numbers, there’s a chance that they might not be a terrible investment, either.
