Car Of The Week – Rolls Royce Dawn Black Badge

There’s unique, and then there’s this. A Rolls-Royce Dawn, Black Badge. Not just any Dawn, though. A true one of one, commissioned by the Goodwood team specifically to be displayed at the Goodwood Festival of Speed in 2022. The Dawn starred alongside a khaki green Cullinan and a very bold, blue Phantom. True to its siblings, the Dawn also easily catches your eye, with a special order two-tone paint and a special bespoke interior.

Whether you like it or not, you have to admit that it is exactly what a Rolls-Royce should be: the last word in opulence.  and nowhere does that show more than in the colour.

Yellow doesn’t really do it justice, but that’s what it is. It’s the only Dawn to be produced in this colour- Jasmin Pearl lower with a Black Diamond upper. It’s a really special colour, and it’s carried over into the interior, making this car a genuinely unique prospect. There’s also smaller touches of Jasmine throughout the car, from the two-tone steering wheel to match the exterior, and the yellow pinstripe on the centre caps of the wheels. Some might say it’s too loud, not distinguished, or sophisticated enough for a Rolls-Royce. We have to admit, it’s maybe not for everyone, but Rolls-Royce themselves admit to having an increasingly younger client base than you might expect- one who they say, is universally self-confident, not afraid of being bold.

The order books for the Dawn reportedly closed in March 2022, and on May 22023, BMW Group issued a press release announcing that the Dawn nameplate was heading into retirement, having acquired the accolade of the company’s best-selling convertible in the brand’s long-standing history. That means that late examples like this one are among some of the most desirable, especially with such low mileage. There are plenty of desirable options as well, including the Rolls-Royce signature package, which includes bespoke audio, RR monogram on headrests and Lambswool floor mats, alongside Driver Assistance 3, which gets you features like active cruise control, heads-up display and Night vision.

The Dawn nameplate was first introduced in the 1950s, as a Silver Dawn drophead coupe. Reincarnated for the 21Century, the Dawn was positioned to bring a certain youthfulness to the Rolls-Royce brand, and nowhere is that more evident than in the Jasmin Pearl paintwork. At this point in the market, there’s very little competition for the Dawn- it exists, like all Rolls-Royces, in a different stratosphere.
