Used BMW M5 for sale
The 5 Series has been a staple of the BMW lineup since its conception in 1972. Although the BMW design department has recently been criticized for its less-than-cute styling, the company still seems to be as strong as ever, and the cars it’s produced haven’t lessened in quality. The 5 Series has not been caught slacking and remains one of the most competitive cars in its class to this day.
What the 5 Series has to offer
The BMW 5 Series is known for its typically great BMW handling, German build quality and sheer practicality. At the top of the line sit the best examples of the 5 Series in the M5 and M5 Competition. That’s not to say models lower in the range don’t make excellent cars- they do- but the M5 is the pinnacle of the range. Over the years the M5 has gradually got more luxurious, with the most recent model (G90 for those interested), weighing almost as much as a Range Rover thanks to the addition of a hybrid system. The M5 has lost next to none of its sporting edge, however, and, divisive styling aside, can still be labelled as all the car you could ever need. Climb the spec tree even higher, and you can find a Competition version of the M5 should the regular M5 be too boring for you; in summary, it is fast, tech-laden and comfortable.
Interior and tech
As generations have passed, the BMW 5 series, particularly the M5, has become increasingly tech-laden. The infotainment screen dominates the dashboard of the latest models and can have features such as gesture control, so you don’t even have to touch the screen to operate it! Whilst the exterior design has been criticised recently, BMW interiors are as good as ever. Quality materials cover every surface, leaving you in no doubt of the 5 Series’ build quality.
What are the running costs?
As you might expect for such a high-performance, heavy car, the latest BMW M5 manages combined Co2 emissions of 239 at best and will cover 26mpg. That’s class-leading, being marginally more fuel efficient than the Mercedes’ AMG C63, which sits at 25.5 mpg, and more efficient than the Alfa Romeo Giulia QV’s 23.7 mpg. The maintenance cost will undoubtedly reflect newer examples of the M5 retailing for over £100,000. That said, BMW is well known for making reliable cars, so the 5 Series should not cause too many problems.
